Hi, my name is Dave, owner of Precieux Art Jewelers (founded in 1977) in Cedar Falls, IA. “Jewelry Wise” is a local newspaper column I have been writing for the past 23 years. With the upcoming launch of our re-designed website, TheDiamondStore.com, I have decided to launch a new blog as well. At the Jewelry Wise blog I will be posting some of my articles from over the years as well as adding new ones to provide you with the most useful information you need to know when it comes to selecting, purchasing, and taking care of your fine jewelry.
Many places on the internet give you very basic advice when it comes to shopping for jewelry. On this blog I have included the basics but I also strive to give you insightful, practical advice on how to make the right decisions when shopping for diamonds and gold. I also try to give you “straight talk” on jewelry buying, to help you navigate around many of the misleading marketing and selling practices. In this day and age, the jewelry industry is full of false advertising, scams, and misrepresentation. I hope the information on this site will help you get the best deal you can and avoid spending a large amount of money on something you later regret.
I have always been fascinated with the natural beauty of gemstones and this passion is what drove me to start my own business over 30 years ago. I am a master jeweler, gemologist (schooled at the GIA as well as the AGL for diamonds and colored stones), and jewelry appraiser. In 2003 I received the Congressional National Leadership Award in Washington, D.C. and in 2005 won a Businessman of the Year award from the U.S. Congressional leadership. In 2004 I was appointed as honorary chairman of the President’s Business Advisory Council, and in 2007 was awarded the Congressional Order for Merit. In 2008, I received the Congressional Medal of Distinction and a Presidential Commission.
TheDiamondStore.com was originally started as an online presence for Precieux Art Jewelers way back in 1996, making it one of the oldest diamond vendors on the web. In 1996 there were only 2,600 jewelry related sites on the web. Today there are over 24 million. Back then most were legitimate vendors, passionate about their trade. In the last 10 years, however, the category of diamonds and fine jewelry on the web has become adulterated with vendors whose only motivation is profit. We take great pride in the fact we are still passionate about our profession, and only offer honestly represented diamonds and durable, well-made pieces of fine jewelry. All at extremely competitive prices!
